Local Business And Charity Team Up To Sponsor Gala Hair And Fashion Show

Stepping Out for Breast Cancer and David Alexander Salon and Spa are sponsoring a hair and fashion show: On The Runway, An Afternoon of Living and Giving to be held October 2, 2011 at the Loews Annapolis Hotel to benefit two local non-profits. Their mission is to harness the compassion of our community by organizing an ongoing fundraising event to benefit those in the greater Annapolis area who are battling or have battled breast cancer.

The event will honor and support women and men coping with breast cancer by presenting a breathtaking hair and fashion show including models who have or have had breast cancer.

Styling and make-up will be provided by David Alexander Salon and Spa. It will showcase unique fashions selected specifically for our models by local Annapolis apparel boutiques.

Along with the hair and fashion show will be an afternoon of living and giving which will include hors d’oeuvres, gourmet food stations, assorted beverages, cash bar and sweets, courtesy of the Loews Hotel and the generosity of local restaurants. There will be ample opportunity to socialize and network with celebrities and individuals from local businesses. Guests will be able to shop a variety of great local vendors and enjoy live music, as well as to participate in a live auction.

This spectacular show will benefit two local Annapolis organizations, METAvivor Research and Support Inc, a 501(c)(3) non-profit and the Anne Arundel Medical Center Breast Center.

METAvivor is the only one organization in Maryland dedicated to offering support to persons diagnosed with stage IV breast cancer, (METAvivor = metastatic survivor). METAvivor is comprised solely of persons with stage IV breast cancer and exclusively funds metastatic breast cancer research. The non-profit is headquartered in Annapolis and has set the national standard for support and research for this deadly disease.

Members are dedicated to helping each other cope with unending treatments, side effects and emotional challenges and they raise funds to award an annual grant for research focused on ending death from the disease.

METAvivor offers friendship, understanding and information to fellow patients through a pro-active face-to-face support program. And recognizing that the disease is particularly tragic for those with young children, METAvivor helps parents develop a lasting memorial for their children through the creation of recorded video messages and memory-laden scrapbooks.

The Anne Arundel Medical Center Breast Center supports 30,000 women and men who are battling or who have battled breast cancer. For the 70% of breast cancer patients, who do not metastasize but remain in remission after treatment has ended, the fear of metastasis makes it difficult for some to return to normal life. For patients needing additional assistance when they are more than one year beyond the completion of treatment, there are few local resources they can turn to for emotional support, counseling or education on maintaining health and wellness.

Their Survivorship Program helps patients transition out of successful treatment and back into regular life. It brings together a team to provide education, psychosocial support, and counseling on maintaining health and wellness after successful treatment.

The organizers expect to draw a crowd of 300-500. For tickets information please contact (410) 702-4780 or email at [email protected].
