Annapolis Recreation & Parks Summer Basketball League

In partnership with the City’s Housing Authority and the Annapolis Youth Sports organization, Annapolis Rec & Parks will hold the 4th annual 17 and Under Summer Basketball League’s “Get Real With Yourself.” In addition to weekly basketball games, youth will take part in personal development workshops. Adult volunteers are needed to serve as workshop facilitators beginning on May 14th from 7:30 – 8 pm at the Robinwood Recreation Center, 1469 Tyler Ave. in Annapolis. The Caring Collection, Inc.

This nonprofit organization raises funds for cancer research and patient care at Anne Arundel Medical Center and Johns Hopkins Hospital by making and selling stained glass angels and sun catchers. Due to recent publicity about the Caring Collection there is an IMMEDIATE NEED for office help to handle telephone inquiries about The Caring Collection.   • 1:00–3:00 pm, Sun., May 1, 2011, Presentation Day: Volunteers are also needed to help with the event on Presentation Day at the residential studio of Bobbie Burnett, 1692 N. Harbor Ct, Annapolis.  Doctors from Johns Hopkins and Anne Arundel Oncology Centers will be in attendance to receive funds from the Caring Collection to purchase medical equipment to benefit oncology patients.

Girl Scouts of Central Maryland P.A.V.E. Summer Camp- “Buddies not Bullies” June 20 – 24

Adult volunteers are needed to assist with activities at the P.A.V.E. (Project Anti-Violence Education) Summer Camp for youth ages 7 to 12 years, June 20 – 24 from 8 am to 4 pm at Camp Woodlands in Annapolis.  The P.A.V.E. program helps girls and boys avoid the pitfalls of peer pressure by empowering them to prevent violence in their lives, schools and communities. Adult volunteers support P.A.V.E.’s teen peer counselors for the week of camp, which will include arts & crafts, presentations by guest speakers, sports and games all centered around the theme “Buddies not Bullies.” Volunteers can choose mornings or afternoons. Moveable Feast

This nonprofit provides home delivered meals for clients who are homebound with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers, as young as 16 (15 & under w/adult) are needed to deliver meals Mon.– Fri. between 9 am–3 pm and 5 pm–8 pm. Meal delivery takes about 1 hr and drivers have flexibility in setting their schedules. Volunteers are asked to deliver once a week or once a month.   • May 14-15, 2009, Ride for the Feast Fundraiser: A variety of volunteer opportunities are available for this event encompassing two days and 140 miles of road biking from Ocean City to Baltimore, MD.  Crew members are needed for events and support leading up to the event, as well as on the days of the ride. Jam for the Animals, Sat. June 18, 2011

Animal Rescue Fund, Inc. of Maryland needs volunteers to help with parking throughout the day for this fundraising concert being held at the AA County Fairgrounds on Sat., Jun. 18, 2011. This benefit concert will feature of 15 bands, food vendors, arts and craft vendors, beneficiaries, and activities for children to raise funds for local animal shelters and rescue organizations. Chesapeake Bay Foundation

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is the largest conservation organization dedicated solely to saving the Chesapeake Bay. A wide variety of volunteer opportunities are available throughout the year.   • Hands On Restoration Projects: Doing tree nursery work, living shore line, wetland, underwater grass, and oyster restoration and gardening projects, Clean the Bay Day, and more. See website for details and calendar.
  • · Outreach and Education: Representing CBF at boat shows, seafood festivals, state fairs, and other outreach events, assisting with education programs, participating with the speaker’s bureau to give presentations to interested groups about health of the Bay and its tributaries.
  • Advocacy: Provide administrative assistance helping with a variety of office tasks, including research, data entry, answering phones, and mailings. Opportunities are also available to serve as a tour guide at Philip Merrill Environmental Center and the Annapolis green headquarters building.

Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow Network (CoCoRaHS)

CoCoRaHS is a non-profit community-based network of volunteers of all ages and backgrounds in several states that works together to measure and map precipitation using inexpensive measurement tools, stressing training and education, and utilizing an interactive web site. Data is provided for natural resource, education, and research applications. Volunteers of all ages are needed (those under 18 need a guardian) to collect and report data about precipitation with measurement tools at their homes which is reported daily to an interactive web site. Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Maryland Chapter

The Maryland Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is hosting the following fundraising walks in Baltimore and Anne Arundel County and is seeking volunteers to help with the events as well as participants. Join other fund-raising teams for a day of fun, food and entertainment:

Fouse Center

This Glen Burnie nonprofit provides transitional housing for homeless men in Northern Anne Arundel County. Its goal is to assist men with the transition from homelessness to independent and stable living. Volunteers are needed to serve on Committees and the Board of Directors, to provide administrative assistance, as mentors and adult education tutors, landscape and building repair, inside painting, general cleaning, organizing supplies and more.
