The Future Is Now! Are You Ready?

You might not want to even think about it as Spring comes, but are you ready to know what to do if you have to plan a funeral? What paperwork will you have to file when a loved one dies?

Get prepared at two free workshops in the continuing series called “The Future Is Now! Are You Ready?” offered by the Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities. Featuring three experts in the field of planning for this inevitability, both workshops will be held in May at the Arnold Senior Activity Center, 44 Church Road, Arnold.

Ronald S. Wade, director of the Anatomical Services Division at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, will be joined by Patrick J. Arnold Sr. of Hardesty Funeral Home to discuss “Funeral Planning Options.” Without some guidance, the options and information surrounding funerals and arrangement planning can seem overwhelming at an already complicated time. This program will provide information to assist in making personal and financial choices that are best in an individual’s circumstances. The workshop will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 4.

Lauren Parker, register of wills for Anne Arundel County, will address “After the Death of a Loved One” from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 18. Losing a loved one is always stressful, whether it is the result of a lingering illness or an accident. There are still many things that need attention after the death. This workshop will help identify who needs to be notified and what documentation is needed to be on hand to help simplify this process.

Sponsors include Home Helpers of the Greater Chesapeake and Maxim Healthcare Services, with Sandy Spring Bank providing the “Vital Documents” folders to hold important papers. The Department of Aging and Disabilities is grateful for its sponsors but does not endorse any particular vendor or business.

To register for the free workshops, call 410-222-4464, Ext. 3094 or go online to www.aacounty.org/aging. Anyone needing accommodations must contact Mary Chaput at 410-222-4464, Ext. 3094 or by e-mail at [email protected] at least seven days in advance of the event.
