As part of an ongoing effort to connect local businesses with Anne Arundel County students, the 21st Century Education Foundation is hosting its fourth annual Career Expo on Saturday, March 5. The event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Michael’s Eighth Avenue, located at 7220 Grayburn Drive in Glen Burnie.
The event provides students with the chance to learn about internship opportunities and future career options in local businesses and government agencies. More than 500 county middle and high school students attended last year’s event.
Approximately 25 businesses and government agencies will be on hand to discuss the opportunities that exist for students. Lunch will be available at no cost to students.
“The 21st Century Education Foundation provides a number of invaluable resources for our school system, and the Career Expo is certainly one of them,” schools Superintendent Kevin M. Maxwell said. “This is a great chance for students and employers to learn a little about each other and to lay the foundation for the future.”
The event is sponsored by Constellation Energy, Praxis Engineering, and Sidus Group. “The Career Expo is an opportunity for high school students to interact directly with future employers and to learn the requirements for various careers, so that they can begin planning now for their future career,” said Mark Powell, president of the 21st Century Education Foundation. “The Foundation is committed to continuing to build our partnership with the school system, so that we can create even more opportunities for students.”
Short breakout sessions will be held on topics such as security clearances and tips for increasing the competitive edge for entrance to colleges and careers. Admission to the expo is free. The high school with the highest percentage of students in attendance will receive a $500 cash prize.
