Barbershop Chorus Sponsors Concert To Feed Hungry

For the 18th consecutive year, the Anne Arundel County Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society—better known locally as the Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus—will sponsor a benefit concert in support of the North County Emergency Outreach Network, or NCEON. The concert will take place at 7pm on Friday, April 1, at the Chesapeake Arts Center, 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park, MD. The doors will open at 6pm, and pre-show entertainment will begin at 6:30.

The North County Emergency Outreach Network is a coalition of churches, service groups, and businesses dedicated to helping the needy and the homeless in northern Anne Arundel County. Since its founding in 1989, NCEON has distributed over six million dollars in food and funds to the less fortunate in the north county. The annual NCEON benefit concerts have raised nearly a quarter million dollars in food and cash donations since 1994.

This year’s NCEON benefit concert will include performances by fifteen vocal harmony acts, including men’s and women’s barbershop groups, and local high school ensembles. The price of admission is any donation to NCEON of non-perishable grocery items (canned & dry foods), baby food and formula, diapers, paper goods, and toiletries. Donations by cash or check (payable to The Sons of the Severn) are also welcome. The Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus and NCEON are both qualified non-profit organizations under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. All contributions are tax deductible.

Scheduled performers include The Sons of the Severn, Harbor City Music Company, Capri, the Chorus of the Chesapeake, the Heart of Maryland Chorus, and ensembles from Glen Burnie and Chesapeake high schools. Pre-show entertainment will be provided by the Dixieland combo Chesapeake Bay Windows.

The Sons of the Severn Barbershop Chorus is the performing chorus of the Anne Arundel County chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society. Information on joining the chapter, earning a spot in the performing chorus, or hiring the chorus can be found at www.singannapolis.com.
