American Red Cross

The Central Maryland Chapter is offering a series of classes in February 2011 open to the public and intended for Red Cross volunteers as follows: 6–10 pm, Thurs. Feb. 17, Mass Care; 9 am–12:30 pm, Sat. Feb. 19, Adult CPR; 1–4 pm, Sat. Feb 19, First Aid; 9 am–5 pm, Sat. Annapolis Summer Garden Theater

§          Auditions: The Annapolis Summer Garden Theater is holding General and Dance Auditions at West Annapolis Elementary School, 210 Annapolis St. 21401, on a number of dates from March 3-March 12, 2011 for productions during the 2011 season of “Chicago: The Musical”, “The Marvelous Wonderettes”, and “Hairspray.” For casting breakdowns, audition requirements and dates, biographical information about 2011 season directors, and more, visit the website at www.summergarden.com.

Arundel Lodge

This nonprofit has residential and day Psychiatric Rehabilitation Programs for approximately 160 individuals with mental illness. Volunteers are needed to assist the staff to teach life skills, play board or card games at the drop-in center go for walks with members and help with social or recreational events. Recently the art department at Arundel Lodge opened an art gallery.  Volunteers are needed to help with the following: publicity, label making, selection of art work, framing, photography, updating website coordinator, gallery sitting, helping find venues to show work, mentors for artists, donation of art materials from the community, and volunteer drivers. Partners in Care

Partners In Care is an all-volunteer local nonprofit helping older adults remain independent in their homes. Drivers, receptionists, handymen, ride dispatchers, Life Line emergency response installers, and boutique workers–all are needed. No amount of volunteer time is too large or too small! Extensive experience is not needed: training is provided by Partners In Care for all positions. See web site: www.partnersincare.org.

This event is being held on Fri. after noon at the Severna Park Community Center, 623 B & A Blvd., Severna Park, and will continue at the Partners in Care Boutique, 6 South Ritchie Hwy. in Pasadena from 10 am–4 pm on Sat., Mar. 27. Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, Arundel & Baltimore ReStores

At the ReStores, volunteers are needed for sales, stocking and receiving merchandise, picking up donated merchandise, planning pick-up routes, phone work, etc. Restore now has two locations: 1. 8101 Ft. Smallwood Road, Pasadena (Store Hours: Wed.–Sat.: 10 am-4 pm-call 410-437-7755), and 2. 505 Kane St., Baltimore (Store Hours–Tues, Wed-Fri: 9am-4pm, Thu: 9am-6pm; Sat: 9am-2pm-call 410-633-0505). Volunteers are needed who can help weekly, bi-weekly or monthly; call the individual stores or visit the website at http://www.chesapeakerestore.org.  

H.O.P.E., Inc. (He Opens the Path to Everyone)

H.O.P.E., Inc. is an all-volunteer non-profit Christian ministry serving families in need in the north AA County, Baltimore City areas and also the Appalachian region by collecting and distributing donated school supplies, household goods and furniture, and clothing. H.O.P.E. is currently looking for some assistance with processing (sorting, testing, reconditioning, pricing) yard sale items at the warehouse and to help with warehouse cleanup. We are also seeking church or civic groups to sort donated clothing at their facilities. Pick up and delivery help for donated items is also needed. Grant researcher/writers are also needed to help with fundraising. Help is also needed in seeking closed facilities for possible rental as well as donated retail space for a thrift shop. Donations of furniture, infant and children’s clothing as well as financial donations are needed. Two board members are also being sought; one is needed to fill an opening as a clergy member, and the other as legal counsel. Moveable Feast

This nonprofit provides home delivered meals for clients who are homebound with HIV/AIDS. Volunteers, as young as 16 (15 & under w/adult) are needed to deliver meals Mon.– Fri. between 9 am–3 pm and 5 pm–8 pm. Meal delivery takes about 1 hr and drivers have flexibility in setting their schedules. Volunteers are asked to deliver once a week or once a month.   • May 14-15, 2009, Ride for the Feast Fundraiser: A variety of volunteer opportunities are available for this event encompassing two days and 140 miles of road biking from Ocean City to Baltimore, MD.  Crew members are needed for events and support leading up to the event, as well as on the days of the ride. Youth Golf Network (Formerly Anne Arundel Women’s Golf Organization)

The Youth Golf Network is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit, charitable organization founded in 2007 that promotes the game of golf to women and youth from many socioeconomic backgrounds. Through the game of golf, youth will become actively engaged in the social fabric of their community, and derive direct health benefits that improve their quality of life, and most importantly, have their lives enhanced by learning a different method of facing their demanding and challenging circumstances with enthusiasm and strength. We need volunteer professionals, people who can pull in teams of golfers for the Annual Golf-A-Thon, as well as volunteers to help on the day of the event.   • 6:00–9:00 pm, Fri., Mar. 11, 2011, Meet & Greet: This meet and greet being held at the Pasadena Big Vanilla location is for golfers that will be playing in the May 13, 2011 Golf-A-Thon event as well as friends, family and donors. 7:00am to 7:00pm, May 13, 2011, 1st Annual Youth Golf Network Golf A Thon: This fundraiser will challenge 50 golfers to golf 100 holes at the Compass Pointe Golf Course in Pasadena, MD. Each golfers goal is to raise $50 per hole, which is only 50 people giving $1 dollar per hole to assist them and us in reaching our objective. The money raised will support the Youth Golf Network’s “Pass the Torch Program” established to send youth to college and promote them to become mentors to future scholarship recipients.
