The Bowie Baysox and the Amateur Softball Association of America announced that the Women’s National Team will play an exhibition doubleheader at Prince George’s stadium Friday, July 1, beginning at 6:35 p.m.

Stadium gates open at 5 p.m. and the doubleheader features two seven-inning games against the Junior Women’s National Team.  The games will be played by standard ASA rules.  The bases are 60 feet apart, the pitching rubber is 40 feet from home plate and a temporary fence will be constructed in the outfield.  After the game, players are available for autographs.

The event marks the team’s second appearance at the stadium.  They played an exhibition game at the stadium Saturday, May 10, 2008, as part of the “Bound 4 Beijing” tour and set a non-Olympic record for attendance as the National team defeated the Washington Glory 2-0.

Baysox General Manager Brian Shallcross looks forward to the event.  “We are very pleased to welcome the outstanding athletes of Team USA Softball back to Prince George’s Stadium,” Shallcross said.  “These ladies strike a chord with our fan base, and it is a privilege to host them once again.  It is a very popular event, and we strongly encourage fans to order tickets ahead of time.”

ASA Executive Director Ron Radigonda looks forward to working with the Baysox again.  “We are extremely excited to return to Bowie, Maryland, for an exhibition series. ASA Commissioner Jack Mowatt and the Bowie Baysox organization have done an outstanding job in the past hosting our teams,” said Radigonda. “This is a unique experience for softball fans to witness the best players in the world, some of them familiar faces and some up and coming stars.  It’s going to be a great event and we look forward to meeting all our USA fans in Bowie.”

Reserved seat tickets for the games are $24.50 and general admission seats are $19.50 each.  One ticket grants admission for both games and there is a 30-minute delay between the contests.

To make the event as accessible as possible for softball teams and leagues, the first tickets available are for groups of 20 or more.  Group tickets go on sale Monday, February 7, at 10 a.m., and are available by calling (301) 464-4880 or by visiting www.baysox.com.

Individual tickets go on sale to the general public Monday, February 21, at 10 a.m.  Individual tickets are available by calling the Baysox Box Office at (301) 464-4865 or by visiting www.baysox.com.

The Baysox open the 2011 season on the road in Harrisburg Thursday, April 7.  They play their first game at Prince George’s Stadium Thursday, April 14, at 7:05 p.m.  Baysox ticket packages are now available at www.baysox.com.
