Gay Marriage Hearing Brings Both Sides Together. Advocates and opponents of gay marriage took their pitches to the Democratic-controlled Senate on Tuesday afternoon, seeking to lobby a key committee over whether to make Maryland the sixth state in which members of the same sex could marry. Supporters and opponents were to make their case before an afternoon hearing of the Senate Judicial Proceedings Committee. Senate President Mike Miller’s reorganization of the committee after last year’s elections — six of the bill’s sponsors are now on the 11-member committee — has likely cleared the bill to advance to a floor vote that could come as early as next week.

More Rockfish Seized From Illegal Gill NetsMaryland wildlife officials said they have confiscated another 1,100 pounds of striped bass from illegal gill nets found in the Chesapeake Bay. Last week, Natural Resources Police pulled more than 10 tons of striped bass from four gill nets near Bloody Point Light, south of Kent Island. Monday’s seizure involves 1,159 pounds from 1,200 yards of illegally anchored gill net at the mouth of Eastern Bay, a mile south of where the Bloody Point gill nets were found.

Local Expert: Toyota Needs To ‘Re-Focus’.  Ed Callahan, co-owner of Baltimore-based marketing and public relations company Plan It, said Toyota needs to refocus on what it does best.“Now, it’s really not a problem. They probably do want to sweep it aside and say, ‘Listen, we’re not focusing on that. We’ve proven to the American public that it’s not a real problem. Let’s go back to marketing and focusing on us as a car company (with) our products and reliability,’” Callahan said.Callahan, however, said the turnabout will not be easy and is not a short process.
