Car Slams Into House; Ignites Blaze. Anne Arundel County fire officials were trying to determine why a car slammed into a house and hit a gas line, sparking a fire Saturday morning.Crews said the fire occurred at about 2 a.m. in the 3300 block of Yellow Flower Road near Laurel.Anne Arundel County fire officials said a resident arriving home in his vehicle accelerated forward, striking a gas line attached to the home. The vehicle came to rest about a foot inside the structure. Officials have not said why the driver lost control of the vehicle.

Crofton Peeping Tom Victim Speaks Out. A Crofton neighborhood is in shock after police said their neighborhood was stalked by a burglar who also filmed people while they were partially nude.Anne Arundel County Police said Charles Dean Novak, 35, faces theft and peeping tom charges.Sunday, 20-year-old Kylie Stevenson told the WBAL-TV 11 News sister station in Washington D.C., that she was one of the victims.Stevenson said the alleged filming happened several years ago when she was underage. She also said her family has had problems with Novak before.”He’d actually shown up in my bedroom. My dad noticed the doors were unlocked and came upstairs to see if I had sneaked out and he was standing there watching me sleep. We don’t know how long he was there,” Stevenson said.

First Mariner Bank Chair Brings Loaded Gun To BWI; Faces Charges. Maryland Transportation Authority Police said that a bank executive and soccer team owner was issued a criminal summons after he was found with a loaded handgun in carry-on luggage at BWI Marshall Airport’s security area.Police spokeswoman Cheryl Sparks said Saturday evening that Edwin F. Hale Sr. faces charges of interfering with security procedures and violating security regulations following the Friday incident.”He was in violation at the screening area,” Sparks told the Associated Press.She said Hale was not arrested but was detained and then ordered to appear in Anne Arundel County District Court. Hale could face up to 90 days in jail and a $500 fine if convicted, authorities said.Hale, 64, is the chairman of Baltimore’s First Mariner Bancorp and the owner of the Baltimore Blast indoor soccer team. He could not be reached for comment by the AP on Saturday evening. Sparks said Hale has a permit to carry a handgun.

MD Suspends ‘Scared Straight’ Programs. Maryland and California prison officials said Friday they have suspended youthful offender diversion programs featured on the television show “Beyond Scared Straight” after the U.S. Justice Department warned they could lose federal funding. The A&E series, which started Jan. 13, is produced by Arnold Shapiro, maker of the Emmy- and Oscar-winning 1979 television special, “Scared Straight.” Like that show, it documents visits by troubled teenagers to prisons where intimidating inmates deliver in-your-face lectures about the harshness of life behind bars. A prison agency spokesman in South Carolina, the only other state featured on the A&E Network series, said the diversion program will be reviewed by the state’s incoming corrections chief.

Packers Defeat Steelers In SuperBowl XLV. The original Super Bowl champions are on top again. Aaron Rodgers threw three touchdown passes, two to Greg Jennings, and the Green Bay Packers defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers 31-25 on Sunday to win the Super Bowl at Cowboys Stadium. It is the fourth Super Bowl title for the Packers, their first since 1997 when Brett Favre was their quarterback. Vince Lombardi, the namesake of the championship trophy, was their coach when they won the first two Super Bowl played in the late 1960s. Pittsburgh was going for its third title in six seasons, but that goal came to an end when Ben Roethlisberger’s fourth-down pass in the final minute was incomplete.
