Worry Over Bedbugs Spreads To Hotels. Bedbugs are worrying many travelers who stay in hotels, according to a recent survey, but that worry may be unfounded.Federal agencies recently converged at a two-day national summit about bedbugs, which scientists call cimex lectularius. For many others, it’s a tiny bloodsucking parasite enjoying the comeback of the century — so much so that 80 percent of respondents to a recent survey are worried about finding bedbugs at hotels.”The general public is scared to death of going to a hotel where there might be bedbugs and taking them home,” said Wayne White, a board certified entomologist and member of the National Pest Management Association.

Man Gets Ten Years For Smuggling Heroin Into BWI. A man convicted of hiding six pounds of heroin in his luggage on a flight from Ghana to Maryland has been sentenced to 10 years in federal prison.Suleiman Zakaria, 27, of Pikesville, was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Baltimore. A jury convicted him in October of importing heroin into the United States. According to testimony, Zakaria flew from Ghana to Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport in January of last year.He was searched as he entered the United States, and the drugs were found concealed in the lining of his luggage

O’Malley: MD Well-Positioned For Jobs; Opportunities. Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley said no state is better positioned than Maryland to transform global challenges into jobs and opportunities. O’Malley gave his fifth State of the State speech on Thursday in a joint session of the Maryland General Assembly. O’Malley, a Democrat, said Maryland sits at the national epicenter of science, security and health, and the state should focus on innovations in life sciences, biotechnology, aerospace and cyber security.O’Malley said Maryland school systems will now be faced with some tough budget choices.

Police: Burglar Leaves Cell Phone Charging At Scene. Police in Maryland arrested a man after finding his cell phone charging at the scene of a burglary.Montgomery County police said 25-year-old Cody Wilkins has been charged in other burglaries.Authorities said it began when a homeowner’s son arrived as a burglar was going through rooms in the home Friday. Startled, the burglar jumped out a window and fled, police said.The son called police, who searched the home and found a cell phone charging in an electric socket. Investigators said the phone led them to Wilkins.Police said Wilkins’ home was among those in the area that lost power last week when a snowstorm moved through. Arrest records say he’s been linked to other break-ins.
