1 Person Hurt In 3 Car Collision In Arnold.  A three vehicle collision Sunday sent one car crashing into the side of a house and one person to a local hospital, according to Anne Arundel County fire officials.The collision occurred shortly before 9 a.m. in the 900 block of Ternwing Drive in Severna Park.Officials said the chain reaction began when one car hit a parked car, the parked car crashed into another vehicle, and that vehicle smashed into the side of a home.One person was taken to Shock Trauma, according to authorities.Anne Arundel County police were continuing the investigation.

Former Annapolis Mayor John Chambers Dies. The first and only African-American mayor of Annapolis has died.John Thomas Chambers Jr., 82, died Friday, according to Annapolis officials.Chambers served on the city council for 14 years and as mayor for two months in 1981 after Mayor Gustav Akerland committed suicide.Chambers introduced legislation making the mayor’s job a full-time position. He also led the fight to make Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday a city and state holiday.Funeral arrangements for Chambers have not been announced.

Crofton Girl Wins Anne Arundel Spelling Bee.  A Crofton girl outlasted 26 other champion spellers Saturday to win the 23rd annual Anne Arundel County Spelling Bee.Emily Durell earned a trip to the national Scripps National Spelling Bee in June.”I walked away from last year feeling a lot of pressure to one-up myself for this year’s competition,” Emily said in a statement released by the county school district. “It was really intense, but I had a lot of help. My parents helped me study and my teacher, Mrs. (Susan) Casler, was really supportive. My schoolmates were also cheering me on. I’m overwhelmed and excited to go to the national competition.”Emily, who finished second in last year’s bee, correctly spelled the word “execration” to win the title.

BGE Restores Power To Majority Of Customers.  Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. announced Sunday that it had restored electric service to more than 93,000 customers since Friday afternoon’s windstorm and expected service to the vast majority of remaining customers to be restored by late Sunday evening, with some isolated and scattered outages possibly extending into Monday.Due to the extensive system damage from the storm, full restoration was not expected to occur until late Sunday night, with some scattered outages extending into Monday, according to officials.Area residents felt Mother Nature’s wrath as well. “I was like, it might be an earthquake because the whole house was shaking and I wasn’t sure what was going on,” said Muhammed Asim, whose neighbor’s tree fell on his roof.
