Cordish Sues MD Jockey Club; Claims Defamation. The developer of the slots casino at Arundel Mills Mall is suing the owners of Pimlico and Laurel Park race courses, claiming they worked together to defame his company to block its plans. The $300 million defamation and invasion of privacy lawsuit filed Tuesday in Baltimore Circuit Court by the Cordish Cos. accuses the Maryland Jockey Club and its owners of trying to sabotage the Maryland Live! casino.The casino broke ground about three weeks ago.Developer David Cordish said the Jockey Club conspired with a group of Indian Trusts to defame him.

Police: Body Found In Inner Harbor. Police said a body was pulled Tuesday morning from the Inner Harbor.The Baltimore City Police Marine Unit responded at about 8 a.m. to a location near the Baltimore Museum of Industry off Key Highway.Police said the body, which is believed to be that of a black man, will be taken to the state Medical Examiner’s Office.The person has yet to be identified.Police are currently classifying the death as suspicious.

First Section Of ICC To Open Early Next Week. The first section of the Intercounty Connector that will link Interstate 95 with Interstate 270 in Gaithersburg is scheduled to open Feb. 22.That first section will extend from I-270 to Route 97, and members of the media were given a tour of that stretch of road Tuesday.It’s estimated that commuters could save about 20 minutes traveling to and from Baltimore on the ICC, which will be known as Maryland Route 200. “This will be a significant benefit to the commuters in Maryland and the people who live along the local roadways by providing an alternative route for folks. They can get onto this roadway instead of driving along local roads to get east and west in between Montgomery and Prince George’s counties,” said ICC Project Director Melinda Peters.

School Teacher Shot, Killed In MD. Grief counselors are expected at a Waldorf high school after a technology education teacher was shot and killed inside his car by an acquaintance.The counselors will be available Wednesday at North Point High School, where 24-year-old Christopher Hoefert taught and was also a track coach.Police in Charles County said Hoefert was at a stop sign in White Plains on Tuesday afternoon when an acquaintance pulled up beside him, got out of the car and fired several shots.The assailant, identified as 22-year-old Robert Becker, then shot and killed himself, police said.
