Family and friends gathered in a local shopping center’s parking lot to mourn the death of an ex-teacher found dead in her car last week.The crowd stood in the parking lot where police discovered the body of Myra Cason, who police said was shot in the chest inside her Suzuki Sidekick last Friday.”My mother was like a diamond in the rough. People like my mother come along once in a lifetime to me,” said the victim’s son, Orlando Sewell. Sewell was surrounded by hundreds of people who prayed, sang and wept for the 63-year-old retired Glen Burnie teacher.
Fires Blaze In Pasadena, North East. Area firefighters responded to a pair of fires Monday afternoon.In Anne Arundel County, fire crews responded to a home in Pasadena at about 2:30 p.m. to find it fully engulfed in flames.More than 30 firefighters had to fight the blaze from the outside.No injuries have been reported. It’s unknown if anyone was home at the time.
Freezing Drizzle Falls In MD; Snow North. A look outside Tuesday morning may deceive some people as enough drizzle has frozen into ice on some roads.11 Insta-Weather PLUS meteorologist Tony Pann said ice has accumulated for three or four hours overnight as temperatures remained below freezing throughout metropolitan Baltimore, including the southern suburbs. The main roads have been treated and were in good condition, 11 News crews in the field reported.
Study: Red Light Cameras Cut Fatal Crashes. Red light cameras are helping drivers remember that red means stop and are saving lives, according to a new study out Tuesday by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.Baltimore saw a 14-percent drop in fatal red light crashes, but a 50-percent increase in fatal crashes at intersections with signals, according to the study. The study concludes that the cameras have reduced the rate of fatal crashes by 24 percent in 14 large cities that introduced red light cameras between 1996 and 2004.
