Get Movin’ Fitness Fair

Edgewater Fitness will host Get Movin’ 2011, a community health and wellness fair, on Saturday, February 26th, from 8 AM to 1 PM. The event will take place at their facility located at 5 Mayo Road in Edgewater. Local businesses, blood pressure screenings, demonstrations, and health seminars will be featured.

Edgewater Fitness was one of thirty sites in the nation to receive a grant funded by the National Institutes of Health to promote WeCan! (Ways to Enhance Children’s Activity and Nutrition), a program designed to give entire communities resources to improve children’s health and activity level. Edgewater Fitness wants to promote this model to the community by providing an outlet where families can learn how to make better lifestyle choices.

“Health issues are becoming more and more of a concern nationwide,” said Jeff Dibler, General Manager of Edgewater Fitness. “Get Movin’ Edgewater is designed to inform the community that healthy living can be incorporated into anyone’s lifestyle.”

Organizations in attendance include Baltimore Washington Eye Centers, Fleet Feet Sports Annapolis, Anne Arundel County Department of Health, Nutrition Design, Edgewater-Davidsonville Patch, Susan G. Komen foundation and South River Martial Arts. Several other vendors will be onsite throughout the day with free give-a-ways and healthy food samples.

Karen Blonder, owner of Nutrition Design, is looking forward to participating in this event.

“Get Movin’ Edgewater provides a great opportunity for members of the community to try out some new fitness activities, take advantage of some free health screenings, and learn some healthy eating strategies.”

At the event, Nutrition Design will be accepting sign-ups for the upcoming 4 week WeCan! Parent Program starting on March 5 at Edgewater Fitness. The program will help parents develop healthy eating habits in their children and find fun, engaging ways to increase their activity level.

Get Movin’ is a free event and parents are encouraged to bring the entire family. Activities for children will be provided including martial arts demonstrations, kids Zumba, and health-related arts and crafts.

During the fair, Edgewater Fitness will also be hosting a 4 hour Spin-A-Thon, benefitting Ride 2 Recovery, a non-profit organization that assists in the rehabilitation of wounded veterans.

Edgewater Fitness, established in February 2010, is the most sought after gym in the South River/Edgewater area because of their affordable memberships and quality services. Edgewater Fitness is a 40,000 square foot fitness facility located in Edgewater, Maryland. Their gym features pristine locker rooms, an extensive weight area, 100+ pieces of cardio equipment, and over 50 group fitness classes per week, which are all included in their membership price.
