Ft. Meade High School Wins Round Three Of County Math Competition

Meade High School captured first place in the third round of the Anne Arundel County High School Mathematics Competition, which saw Annapolis High School place second and a three-way third-place tie between Archbishop Spalding High School, Key School and Severna Park High School.

The Jan. 29 event on the Arnold campus of Anne Arundel Community College attracted 143 students from 16 public and private county high schools. This annual competition organized and hosted by AACC has five matches; each match is divided into two phases.

In the first phase, students work individually to answer as many of six questions as possible during the 30-minute time limit. Two students achieved a perfect score: Logan Crew of Meade High School, doing so for a third consecutive match, and Lukash Onyshkevych of Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School.

In the second phase of the competition, the students work in teams of up to five members each to answer another set of six questions in 30 minutes. No team achieved a perfect score.

School scores are computed by adding the best team score to the average of the top three individuals’ scores. Third round scores were: Meade High, 8; Annapolis High, 7.33; Archbishop Spalding High, Key School and Severna Park, tied at 7.0; Severn School, 6.67; Chesapeake High and North County, tied at 6.33; Broadneck High, 6.0; Arundel High, 5.0; Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School, 4.67; Glen Burnie High, 3.33; Northeast High, 2.67; South River High, 2.33; Indian Creek, 1.67; and Old Mill High, 1.33.

Scores for the year to date put Meade High in first place overall, 27.0; Severna Park High, 24.33; Severn School, 22.67; Chesapeake Science Point Public Charter School, 20.33; Annapolis High, 19.33; Archbishop Spalding High, Broadneck High and Key School, tied at 19.0; North County High, 17.0; Arundel High, 15.33; Chesapeake High, 12.33; South River High, 9.0; Glen Burnie High, 8.66; Northeast High, 8.33; Indian Creek School, 6.34; Annapolis Area Christian School and Old Mill High, tied at 1.67
