Casting Call: Senior Idol Auditions

Anne Arundel County seniors age 60 and older who have not sung for a living are invited to enter the fifth annual Maryland Senior Idol Vocal Competition and Benefit, hosted by the Baltimore City Department of Recreation and Parks Senior-Citizen Division. This event will recognize top senior vocalists in the state.

Auditions for Anne Arundel County vocalists will take place Feb. 18, starting at 12:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the Pascal Senior Activity Center, 125 Dorsey Road, Glen Burnie. Performers should be prepared to sing a song no longer than three minutes and provide their own music. Two winners will then represent Anne Arundel County in the state competition to be held on March 30 at the Chesapeake Arts Center Theater, 194 Hammonds Lane, Brooklyn Park. In addition to the March 30 performance, participants must be available to attend a dress rehearsal on March 29.

Tickets are $6 at the door for the March 30 competition, with proceeds to benefit the Maryland Food Bank.

Winners of the Maryland Senior Idol Competition will receive gift packages. First prize is a $250 gift basket, with second place $150. All participants will receive a small gift.

Anne Arundel County vocalists are encouraged to be members of an Anne Arundel County Senior Center but membership, which is free, is not required.

Maryland Senior Idol rules, registration form, and a photo release and consent form are available at all seven senior centers or may be found on Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities’ home page at www.aacounty.org/aging.

Call the Pascal Senior Activity Center at 410-222-6680 or e-mail [email protected] for information. Please respond by Feb. 16, 2011.
