School Raises $21K For Polar Bear Plunge. While thousands will take an icy dip in the Chesapeake Bay on Saturday to benefit the Maryland Special Olympics, schools from all over the state will participate in the Cools Schools Frigid Friday event with Superplungers as part of the 15th Annual Polar Bear Plunge. Many of the students taking part are athletes who raised money for the Special Olympics.This year’s top fundraising school is Arundel High School in Gambrills. Principal Sharon Stratton said the first goal was to beat the top school from last year. If you would like to donate, please click here.

Orioles Pitcher Arrested On DUI Charge. Baltimore Orioles left-hander Troy Patton was arrested last weekend on suspicion of driving while intoxicated. Houston police spokesman Victor Senties says the 25-year-old was pulled over after his car jumped a curb on a city street about 8:15 p.m. Sunday. Senties says an officer spotted Patton driving erratically in the eastbound lane. The vehicle hit the curb, nearly collided with another vehicle and made two abrupt lane changes without a signal before the observing officer pulled him over, Senties said.

Lawmakers In MD Outline Same-Sex Couples Bill Maryland’s Senate and House majority leaders are holding a news conference to talk about their proposed Religious Freedom and Civil Marriage Protection Act to recognize same-sex couples. Senate Majority Leader Rob Garagiola, D-Montgomery, and House Majority Leader Kumar Barve, D-Montgomery, will outline details of the measure on Tuesday.The legislation seeks to end the exclusion of committed same sex couples from civil marriage while also protecting the religious freedom of churches and synagogues.

Wintry Mix For Wednesday. It is hard to believe that just 48 hours after the coldest temperatures of the winter a storm system will arrive with a messy wintry mix of precipitation instead of just pure snow.  Monday evening surface maps show the arctic air retreating to the northeast as our mid week storm develops near the gulf coast.
