Carbon Monoxide Poisoning Sends Severna Park Couple To Hospital. Crews responding to a possible carbon monoxide call found two people in serious condition, according to the Anne Arundel County Fire Department.An unconscious 44-year-old man and a barely conscious 29-year-old woman were found inside a garage in the 700 block of Monmouth Avenue in Severna Park just before noon Sunday.Officials said the two were apparently seeking refuge from the cold inside a running vehicle that was in the garage. Officials also said the two showed symptoms consistent with carbon monoxide poisoning.
ANOTHER Baby Born On I-97 In Anne Arundel. A baby decided to enter the world alongside southbound Interstate 97 Sunday morning, according to Anne Arundel County police.The father and mother were on their way to Anne Arundel Medical Center when their plans suddenly changed. They had to pull over near Benfield Boulevard in Millersville and call 911 at about 6:44 a.m.A fire department dispatcher instructed the father on how to deliver the baby. Medics arrived to transport the mother and child to Anne Arundel Medical Center.The identity of the parents and the sex of the child were unknown.
Armed Robbers Storm Assisted Living Center In Davidsonville. Anne Arundel County police are investigating the armed robbery of a caretaker at an assisted living center Saturday morning.Officers responded to the Kris Leigh Assisted Living Center in the 3900 block of Birdsville Road, Davidsonville at about 3:30 a.m. Two caretakers at the facility reported that two male assailants, one of them armed, kicked in the day-room door. The men then demanded to know where the valuables were stored, according to police. Unsatisfied with the answers they received the intruders then kicked in the office door. When nothing of value was found, they took the caretakers’ personal property and fled, police said. There were no injuries reported.
Not Again! College Tuition Hike Likely. As Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley unveiled his plan Friday to close a $1.6 billion deficit via budget cuts and money transfers, the news is not so good for thousands of Maryland college students.The governor said he wants to raise tuition by 3 percent next year, while the Board of Regents has proposed an increase of 5 percent. It’s the second straight year an increase has been proposed.University System of Maryland Chancellor William Kirwan said there were very few options on the table.”The alternative would be lots of layoffs at the university, admitting fewer students and having larger classes and fewer services, and I don’t think that would have been in the best interest of the state,” Kirwan said.
