Murder In Severn

UPDATE 12:27 pm 01/21/2011: The victim in this incident has been identified as Vejar Deaunte Rodwell, 23, of the 1700 block of Richfield Drive in Severn, Maryland.

From the Anne Arundel County Police Department:

On January 21, 2011, at approximately 12:02 a.m., officers from the Western District responded to the 1700 block of Richfield Drive in Severn for a report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, officers located a 23-year-old male victim inside of the residence suffering from apparent gunshot wound(s) to the upper torso. The victim was pronounced dead on scene by fire department personnel. Homicide detectives responded to the location to assume responsibility for the investigation. Preliminary investigation indicates that a male suspect made a forced entry into the residence, located the victim inside and shot him prior to fleeing the residence in an unknown direction. Detectives are continuing to conduct witness interviews and collect evidence from the scene.

At this time, the motive remains under investigation, however, it appears that the victim was targeted and this was not a random act of violence. The victim will be transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy to be conducted. The victim’s name is not being released at this time pending notification of next of kin.
