UPDATE 5:35 am 01/12/2011: Anne Arundel County Public Schools will be opening two hours late this morning due to the snow.
UPDATE 12:10 am 01/12/2011: According to the Anne Arundel County Public Schools’ website, all schools will be open on January 12, 2011 at normal time with a normal schedule.

UPDATE 2:47 pm 01/11/2011: From the County Executive’s Office:
Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold has mobilized Public Works crews as snow moves into the region.
“A full contingent of public works crews is out on our arterial and collector roads, with shifts beginning at noon and midnight,” County Executive Leopold said. “We will continue to monitor the forecast to determine whether additional contractors are needed. We ask that motorists exercise caution on the roads as school buses are on the roads earlier and the snow continues to fall.”
The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory calling for 2 to 4 inches of snow through early Wednesday morning with temperatures overnight of about 27 degrees. Seventy-two County trucks are standing by.
The County’s level of service for up to 6 inches of snow accumulation is bare pavement on arterial and collector roads within 24 hours of the end of snowfall, and passable conditions on residential streets within 36 hours of the end of snowfall, meaning that while the road may still be snow packed, at least one travel lane is accessible for a front wheel drive car. Normally, the County does not salt a residential street unless it is on a slope or some other extenuating circumstance.
Please remember the following snow tips:
● Park all vehicles in a driveway whenever possible. If off-street parking is not available, please work with your neighbors to park all vehicles on one side of the road only.
● Children should be cautioned to stay clear of plows and other heavy equipment, and drivers should do the same to allow them to do their work.
● Clearing of sidewalks and removal of ice is the responsibility of each resident.
● Remove all recycling containers, trash cans, and other obstacles from the street.
● Use patience – plowing operations are prioritized to get motorists moving as quickly as possible.
● Maintain a safe following distance on the roadways during slick conditions, maintain low speeds and turn on your lights to increase visibility.
● Brake gently to avoid skidding.
UPDATE 10:10 am 01/11/2011: From Anne Arundel County Public Schools:
Due the forecast for inclement weather, all Anne Arundel County Public Schools will close two hours early today. There will be no afternoon half-day sessions of pre-kindergarten or ECI classes. In addition, all school-sponsored after-school activities scheduled for today, including evening middle school and high school classes and the Board of Education’s public hearing on the Fiscal Year 2012 budget, are canceled. For the status of activities sponsored by agencies other than Anne Arundel County Public Schools, including after-school day care, please check with that agency.
