Chemical Leak From Train In Hanover

UPDATE 04:35 pm: From a firefighter on the scene, the train was heading north from Washington and some track workers reported being sickened as the train passed closer to Washington. It was stopped for inspection at Montevideo Road, but ultimately no leaks were detected.

UPDATE 03:48 pm: Incident Command reports that all cars have been inspected and cleared and the scene will be cleared shortly. There was no derailment involved in this incident.

UPDATE 03:43 pm: From the Baltimore Sun:

Service on MARC’s Camden Line was stopped Tuesday afternoon between Washington and Baltimore while Anne Arundel County firefighters investigated potential chemical leaks on a mile-long CSX train, fire and transit officials said.

The CSX train was stopped at Montevideo Road at the Anne Arundel-Howard County line about 1:40 p.m., said Lt. Cliff Kooser, an Anne Arundel fire spokesman. At 3 p.m., a hazardous-materials team was getting ready to check for potential leaks, according to Kooser.

No one was treated for injuries by Arundel emergency personnel, he added.

The Camden Line was shut down about 2:30 p.m., said Terry Owens, a spokesman for the Maryland Transit Administration. MTA was making arrangements for alternative methods of transporting passengers, he said.

UPDATE 02:45 pm: The tracks are reportedly shut down in the area, but Incident Command just dispatched units to stage on either side of the incident on overpasses to act as a spotter for any oncoming trains. A Media Staging Center has been established at 7595 Montevideo Road. This is at the Dorsey Commerce Center on the Howard County side of the tracks. We have heard no mention of a derailment on radio traffic.

Fire crews have just been dispatched to the intersection of Montevideo Court and Montevideo Road for a “rail incident” and haz mat leakage. CSX has been requested to respond to the incident.
