13th Annual Event Will Showcase 12 of Anne Arundel County’s Finest High School Rock Bands

The 13th annual Anne Arundel County High School Battle of the Bands is rapidly approaching.   This year, the event takes place on Saturday, January 29th at Maryland Hall in Annapolis.   Each year, this event gives over 50 Anne Arundel County High School rock musicians a chance to showcase their bands on a grand stage usually reserved for the ballet and symphony.

Founded in 1999 by Nancy Almgren as a project for Leadership Anne Arundel, the event has grown into largest school-system sponsored Battle of the Bands in the entire country.   All of the proceeds from the event are donated to Anne Arundel County High School music programs.  To date, over $75,000 has been raised.

“To see how far this event has come in the last 12 years has been incredible.” says Nancy, who serves as the organization’s Director.  ” This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to showcase these incredible talents, giving them a chance to perform in front of a capacity crowd, all while raising money for music programs that so desperately need the funding.”

The bands featured in this year’s show include:  The Banned (Annapolis), Capstone (Key School), Chasing Seals (Glen Burnie), The Daily Special (Severn), Have Mercy (North County), In Soviet Russia (Southern), Nitrix (Spaulding), Pandomonia (Severna Park), Red Light Renegade (Southern), Speaking of Mimes (Old Mill), The Wasted Location (South River) and Yesterday’s Escape (Broadneck).

The winning band will receive studio time at Baltimore’s Wright Way Studios, airplay and an interview on 98 Rock, as well as the chance to headline The Whiskey in Annapolis on February 20th. They will also be a part of Annapalooza 2011.

The event will be hosted by Danny Mays, bassist for Gold Mind Squad, who also serves as the Organization’s Marketing Director and Vice President.   The Maryland State Education Association is a major sponsor.

Maryland Hall is located at 801 Chase St. Annapolis, MD.  The show will take place on Saturday, January 29th.   Doors will open at 5:00 PM and tickets are $12.  This is an all ages event.    Advance tickets are available online via the links below.  Tickets will also be available at the door on the night of the show on a first-come, first-served basis.
