2 Dead After Carbon Monoxide Exposure. City fire crews are investigating a carbon monoxide incident that has resulted in two deaths.Officers and medics were called just after 11 a.m. Tuesday to a three-story brick rowhome in the 1700 block of Guilford Avenue.Fire Department spokesman Kevin Cartwright said two people were declared dead at the scene. Three other people, including a juvenile, were taken to University Hospital for treatment.A hazmat team performed air monitoring that identified carbon monoxide levels between the ranges of 300-500 parts per million. Cartwright said that 100 parts per million was considered an “immediate evacuation environment.”
Police: Would Be Robber Fatally Shot In Laurel. A would-be robber shot by an Anne Arundel County property/gas station owner early Tuesday has died from his injuries.Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said a 29-year-old man entered the store portion of a gas station in the 3400 block of Laurel Fort Meade Road at about 3:30 a.m. The building included a Dunkin’ Donuts store along with a Baskin-Robbins.”The suspect entered the store in the early-morning hours and announced a robbery. He implied that he had a weapon,” Mulcahy said. “At a certain point the suspect and the 48-year-old property owner got into some sort of altercation, some struggle if you will, which resulted in the suspect being shot.”
$4 A Gallon For Gas Next Year? Average retail gasoline prices in the Baltimore area have risen 4.8 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $3.03 per gallon at the start of the week.This compares with the national average which has increased 4.3 cents per gallon in the last week to $3.03 per gallon, according to gasoline price website BaltimoreGasPrices.com. Including the change in gas prices in Baltimore during the past week, prices Monday were 49.0 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago and are 19.7 cents per gallon higher than a month ago. The national average has increased 17.7 cents per gallon during the last month and stands 42.9 cents per gallon higher than the same day one year ago.
Taxes Could Increase Despite Lower Property Value. Residential property values dropped an average 22 percent in Maryland, but that doesn’t always mean lower taxes.According to the Maryland Department of Assessments and Taxation, 95 percent of properties recently assessed decreased in value, and some of the property owners may actually see an increase in taxes.Maryland’s director of assessments and taxation, C. John Sullivan Jr., said the drop represents new territory.”It’s the biggest decrease that we’ve seen in recent memory, I would say,” Sullivan said.
