Former Bad Cop In Trouble Again

Joseph F. Mosmiller gained notoriety here in Anne Arundel County while he was a police officer. In January 2007, he was the cop that never called in a traffic stop so he could see if he could coerce young women to flash their breasts for his cell phone in exchange for letting them go.  It was an abuse of power and a judge sentenced him to 6 days in jail. His sentence was 3 years, but all but 6 days was suspended. He was also to serve one month under house arrest and forced to resign from the police department. His probation was to be supervised for three years.

Well, it seems that Mosmiller may have graduated from taking snapshots. A warrant was issued on December 8, 2010 charging him with attempted second degree rape, second degree assault, reckless endangerment, a fourth degree sex offense, false imprisonment, and trespassing on private property. This stems from an October 28, 2010 incident.

According to court records, a domestic violence restraining order was issued against Mosmiller by the District Court on behalf of his estranged wife on November 1, 2010, 4 days after the incident.

Mosmiller was located today, arrested, processed and is currently being held at the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

The victims of Mosmiller’s actions in 2007 sued the police department, Anne Arundel County and Mosmiller. The suits were settled out of court for an undisclosed amount.
