Police Conclude Operation “Stay Safe”

Over the past six months, (June 1, 2010 through November 30, 2010), detectives assigned to the Special Enforcement Section conducted multiple investigations with the common purpose of reducing illegal activity occurring in and around Anne Arundel County hotels and motels. The investigations were encompassed under Operation “SAFE STAY” and had the goal of specifically targeting hotel and motel occupants in Anne Arundel County, who are utilizing these establishments to conduct illegal activity such as narcotics trafficking and prostitution.

The initiative resulted in 35 arrests and the seizure of the following contraband:

  • Marijuana: 2,651.48 grams (approximate street value of $53,029.60)
  • Heroin: 210.7 grams (approximate street value of $53,728.50)
  • Methamphetamine: 1,730 grams (approximate street value of $432,500.00)
  • Crack-Cocaine: 31.8 grams (approximate street value of $3,180.00)
  • Vehicles: four
  • Currency: $2,314.00
  • Handguns:  one
  • TOTAL STREET VALUE OF DRUGS SEIZED: $542,438.10

“I truly appreciate the hard work and professionalism demonstrated by our officers during this most recent crime control operation. I commend their unrelenting and steadfast commitment to public safety. This was a comprehensive investigation that culminated with a significant amount of contraband being seized and numerous arrests being made,” said Chief of Police Colonel James Teare, Sr. “This operation further demonstrates our commitment to building partnerships with the public, our business community and our Federal, State, and local law enforcement colleagues to help make Anne Arundel County a safer place to reside and visit.”

Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold added, “We will not tolerate criminals preying on children. I want to commend our Police Department for another coordinated operation that makes our communities safer.”
