Voters OK Mall Slots; Jockey Club To Cut Back At Laurel. Voters in Anne Arundel County have approved slots at Arundel Mills Mall — and the Maryland Jockey Club has announced its response. The club is cutting back operations at its thoroughbred horse racing tracks next year after failing to defeat the slots referendum.”The reality of closing Bowie as a training center, closing Laurel and operating it as a simulcast facility with no live racing and training, and having Pimlico open about 40 days a year built on the Preakness is a real situation,” said club President Tom Chuckas said.

Tip Of Toddler’s finger Cut Off In Shopping Cart.  A Baltimore mother now looks very closely at shopping carts in the store after her 1-year-old son suffered a serious injury.Kamaria Carter still breaks down when she thinks about what happened to her son, Tobias, on July 22 at the Walmart Supercenter on Washington Boulevard in Arbutus. Carter said Tobias was in the cart when they had just started grocery shopping.”I turn around and hear this horrific scream and wondered what could have possibly happened in that little bit of time,” Carter said.

Clues Sought In Fatal Shooting Of Horse. A horse was killed in a series of weekend shootings that also resulted in damage to three vehicles.Howard County police told WBAL-TV 11 News reporter Rob Roblin on Wednesday that the shootings happened within a 4-mile area of Triadelphia Mill Road and that the shootings may have been related.”We heard a gunshot,” said the horse’s owner, who asked to remain anonymous. “It’s unthinkable to me that someone could do this type of thing. This type of person seriously needs help.”

Intersex Fish Found In Susquehanna River. A federal scientist says intersex fish have been found in the Susquehanna River.Vicki Blazer, a fishery biologist with the U.S. Geological Survey, said more than 90 percent of adult male bass examined in the Susquehanna in the past year had immature egg cells in their sexual organs.Intersex fish have been found nationwide, including the Potomac River, another key tributary of the Chesapeake Bay.
