Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services

Volunteers are needed for the Holiday Sharing Program. Volunteer donors will be matched with a families and senior citizens in Anne Arundel County in need for the holiday season. The program will match volunteers with a family or senior citizen and the volunteer can purchase and personally deliver food the week Thanksgiving and Christmas. Creating Communities

The nonprofit organization’s goal is to build life skills and self-esteem and foster connections across cultures. Volunteers are needed to provide tickets and funding to take youth to cultural events, support the Arts Mentorship Academy for Arts, interview WWII vets and Holocaust survivors in the county, and visit patients at Anne Arundel Medical Center with therapeutic art cart.   • Wed., Nov. 17, 2010, Thanksgiving Dinner: We need volunteers and turkey cookers for Thanksgiving Dinner for 150 at Eastport United Methodist Church and to help make holiday cards for low income seniors at Glenwood in Annapolis.

Chrysalis House

Chrysalis House, Inc. in Crownsville provides addiction treatment services for women and their children in a residential setting. The organization is seeking volunteers with retail experience to assist in the Butterfly Boutique on the weekends in customer services, inventory, sales, and floor planning.  In addition, volunteers are needed to teach basic word processing, spread sheets, basic resume writing, help with computer maintenance and upgrades, building repairs and grounds maintenance, work in childcare center-after appropriate screening, and to facilitate recreational activities for residents.  Some volunteer positions are flexible; both day and evening times are possible.  Internships for Bachelor and Master Degree programs are often available.  Contact Carressa Christian via e-mail at [email protected] or call 410-974-6829 x40.

  • Chrysalis House is also recruiting individuals to serve on its board of directors, a great opportunity to make a difference in helping clients rebuild their lives. Food Link

Established in 1991, this hunger relief organization provides free food and other essentials to people in need in Anne Arundel County and four counties on the Eastern Shore. Volunteers with trucks or vans needed to pick up food from distribution centers, restaurants and others and deliver to food pantries, shelters and other locations serving the hungry.  Assist with emergency food pantry and emergency baby pantry items. Eastport Girls Club (EGC)

  • EGC is seeking high school senior or adult volunteers to serve as weekly tutors on Weds. from 3:30-4:30 pm to participants of the EGC; participants are in grades 5–9. For consistency and predictability to the participants, tutors should commit to an academic year of service (early Sept. through early Jun.). Training will be provided and a background check is required.   • EGC is also seeking adult volunteers to serve as group leaders on Wed. afternoons from 4:30-6:00 pm. Group leaders also need to attend approximately two meetings a month to plan and coordinate.  For more information contact Karen Feldman at 410-295-7002 or [email protected].
  • In an effort to build our library, which will be offered to give all kids in our community access to quality literature, the Eastport Girls Club is asking you to help support literacy. Earleigh Heights Volunteer Fire Company

The volunteer fire company seeks volunteers, age 16 and up, to serve as fire fighters and EMTs, to help with fundraising, event planning, safety education, facilities supervision and planning, website design and maintenance, clerical support, long range and strategic planning, public relations and marketing, grant writing, and business administration.  No experience is needed for volunteers desiring to serve as firefighters and EMTs as firefighting/EMS training will be furnished.  In addition, ladies auxiliary members are being sought to help with fund raising, public relations, catering for events such as weddings, parties, and company events.  For more information, contact 410-647-3119 or E-mail [email protected].  Web site: www.ehvfc.org

The Family Tree

The Family Tree’s mission is to prevent child abuse and neglect by providing family support and education that promote well-being among Maryland families.  Volunteers, over 18, are needed for child nurturers to create a safe, structured, weekly Children’s Program in North County.   Volunteers, over 21, are needed as parent educators in North and South Counties to co-teach a Positive Parenting Course in 12-week intervals.  Volunteers, over 21, are needed to run the “tot-line”, which is an emergency response (medical or otherwise) resource for parents with children under the age of 5; volunteers with experience/training in child development are preferred.  For further information about the “tot-line” and all volunteer opportunities, please visit the website given below. Habitat for Humanity of the Chesapeake, Arundel & Baltimore ReStores

At the ReStores, volunteers are needed for sales, stocking and receiving merchandise, picking up donated merchandise, planning pick-up routes, phone work, etc. Restore now has two locations: 1. 8101 Ft. Smallwood Road, Pasadena (Store Hours: Wed.–Sat.: 10 am-4 pm-call 410-437-7755), and 2. 505 Kane St., Baltimore (Store Hours–Tues, Wed-Fri: 9am-4pm, Thu: 9am-6pm; Sat: 9am-2pm-call 410-633-0505). People’s Community Health Centers

This nonprofit organization has several clinics in Baltimore and Anne Arundel County providing a variety of healthcare services to all in need regardless of income or insurance status. Volunteer clinic assistants, age 18 and up, are needed at the Brooklyn Park Center to help with a variety of office duties such as helping with medical records correspondence, patient appointment calls, helping patients with forms, pulling charts, filing, faxing, and more. Candidates will be trained and must pass drug testing and a background check. Volunteer commitment is for a 3-hour weekly shift between the hours of 9 am–5 pm.
