Severna Park Middle To Cut Ribbon November 4th

The new Severna Park Middle School will reopen in Anne Arundel COunty on November 4th

After two-and-a half years of maneuvering students and classes and staying focused on instruction amidst the clanks of hammers and the shrills of drills, the students, administration, staff, and parents of Severna Park Middle School will formally dedicate their newly revitalized school during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, November 4.

The student-led event will begin promptly at 11:00 a.m. with a program that will include remarks by Maryland State Superintendent of Schools Nancy S. Grasmick, Anne Arundel County Board of Education President Patricia R. Nalley, and Anne Arundel County Superintendent of Schools Kevin M. Maxwell.

“This is an exciting time for our students, staff, and parents, who have been so patient and diligent despite the circumstances of a construction crew being a part of our lives since May 2008,” Severna Park Middle School Principal Sharon Morell said. “But it has all been worth it. This project not only revitalized our building, but it has also renewed our school community, and we are motivated to achieve even more.”

The $55 million project added more than 43,600 square feet of additional space, including a new cafeteria, media center, administrative offices, lobby, fully-equipped computer labs, video-linked security system, and interactive whiteboards and other state-of-the-art technology in every classroom.

In addition to the structural changes, the school adopted a new mascot and colors to go along with the metamorphosis – the Severna Park Ospreys are now soaring in sea-inspired hues of blue and silver.
