Woman, 89, Thought Dead Found Breathing, Moving.  An Anne Arundel County woman who police reported dead after finding her blue and not breathing in her home was actually alive. Police were called to check on Ruth Shillinglaw Johnson, 89, on Oct. 1. According to a report, officers found her motionless on her bathroom floor, and one officer noted an odor “similar to a decomposition smell.” But officers did not check for a pulse. Instead, they called Johnson’s adult son and told him his mother was dead. The man said Johnson planned to donate her body to science. A State Anatomy Board employee arriving to take the body three hours later heard Johnson take a deep breath and saw her move her arm.

Election Officials Consider Ballot-Counting Proposal.  An election official in Maryland has drafted new regulations that could let officials start counting votes early during November’s general election. During last month’s primaries officials were allowed to count votes starting at 2 p.m. on election day. Now, State Elections Administrator Linda H. Lamone has drafted new rules that would let vote counting begin any time on election day. The results wouldn’t be reported to the public until after the polls close, but some critics say there’s still the potential for abuse.

Plant To Turn Waste To Energy, Jobs. Construction is ready to begin on a new waste-to-energy plant proposed for the site of a former Baltimore chemical plant.Energy Answers said it has received all key permits for development of the former FMC chemical plant site.FMC Corporation will continue to own the brownfield site and conduct monitoring and remediation. Company officials were scheduled to appear at a kickoff event Monday.

Ravens Lose 4th Quarter Lead, Fall To Pats in OT.  The Baltimore Ravens couldn’t hold a fourth-quarter lead, and it cost them.Stephen Gostkowski’s 35-yard field goal with 1:56 left in overtime gave the New England Patriots a 23-20 come-from-behind win over the Ravens on Sunday.Deion Branch, acquired five days after Randy Moss was traded to Minnesota on Oct. 6, sparked the comeback from a 20-10 deficit starting with a 5-yard scoring pass from Tom Brady four minutes into the fourth quarter.
