Emergency Landing At BWI

UPDATE: From WBFF Fox 45, the plane was bound for New York and landed safely with no injuries. The extent of the emergency is still unknown. From ABC 2: A BWI Airport spokesman says a smoke report on a Vision Airlines flight diverted the New York-bound flight to Baltimore. Airport spokesman Jonathan Dean says the flight destined for New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport landed without incident about 5:20 p.m. Sunday. Dean said he did not immediately know where the flight originated or how many were aboard the plane, a Boeing 767.

A plane is currently on approach to BWI for an emergency landing. The pilots have reported reported smoke in the cockpit. BWI Crash teams have been dispatched.  It is unknown if this is a passenger plane or the size of the aircraft.

This was dispatched as an “Alert 2” which is defined by the FAA as follows:

Alert 2: Indicates that an aircraft is having major difficulties (i.e., a positive indication of fire on board the aircraft; faulty landing gear; no hydraulic pressure; engine failure on a two-engine large aircraft; etc.). A difficult or crash landing may be expected.
