Annapolis is undoubtedly a beautiful place to live. The homes that dot the area range from unkempt public housing apartments to waterfront spectacles pricing upwards of $10 million dollars. This dichotomy, is part of what makes the area so unique.

But there is is another side of Annapolis. In 2007, The Capital ran a series called A Tale of Two Cities highlighting the difference between the haves and the have nots. It is well worth a read.

But, fast forward to 2010 and the emergence of backpack journalism. Joshua Stewart, a reporter for The Capital, has produced this short video for a class at American University. It was posted on his blog Poor Cyclist highlighting a hidden side of the “have nots” as he talks with Charlie Snowden who has lived under the College Creek Bridge for nearly a decade. This is a side of Annapolis that many do not know exists. Unfortunately, it is a side that others are well aware of, yet choose to ignore. This is Charlie’s Place.

Also featured in the video is Larry Griffin, founder of We Care And Friends. We Care and Friends does some amazing work in the area for those most in need. Please consider supporting them if possible.

And thanks to Joshua Stewart for keeping this plight in the light.
