Assault At Corkran Middle School

From a police report about an assault at Corkran Middle School in Glen Burnie which occurred yesterday:

On October 19, 2010, at approximately 12:53 p.m., officers from the Northern District responded to Corkran Middle School located in the 7600 block of Quarterfield Road in Glen Burnie for a report of an assault.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the assistant principal, who advised that a 13-year-old male student was assaulted while in school. The investigation revealed that the student was in school washing his face when a 14-year-old student came up from behind him and proceeded to put him into a choke hold. The victim became unconscious and fell face first onto the tile floor when released from the hold. The victim suffered multiple facial injures and was taken to John Hopkins for treatment. The suspect was taken into custody and charged with First and Second Degree Assault and Disruption of School Activities. The victim is in stable condition and remains at the hospital.

The school district also posted a letter on the school’s website on Tuesday evening and also notified parents by robo-call.

    Why is this not in the capital newspaper? Has Annapolis and the BOE become immune to this type of frightening behavior? This is the 4th major incident in 2 weeks. Why are we not at the BOE buiding screaming our lungs out at maxwell??? This must stop! Our schools cannot be a haven for alleged/convicted criminals, especially if they play sports. Our children are in danger and we are doing nothing about it. What has happened to this community?

    And with a whimper, the outrage dies. Just as the school district counted on. Now the same old same old can continue until the next episode.

    The only thing really surprising about these attacks is how surprised everybody is when another one occurs.
