Maryland-Navy Football Rivalry Returns On Monday.  On Monday, an age-old football rivalry will be renewed, bringing sports fans and money into Baltimore.The University of Maryland is set to take on the Navy Midshipmen at M&T Bank Stadium on Monday.The last time the two teams met was in 2005. The rivalry goes back to 1905, when the then-Maryland Aggies traveled to Annapolis to play the Admirals.It took Maryland until 1931 to get its first win against Navy, and in the years in between, the teams have only met up a few times.

1st District Candidates Release Fundraising Reports. Republican state Sen. Andrew Harris has raised more money than Democratic Rep. Frank Kratovil in the latest fundraising reporting period, but Kratovil still has more cash on hand in Maryland’s 1st District congressional race. Kratovil reported Thursday that he has raised about $134,000 between July 1 and Aug. 25. Kratovil also reported that he has about $1.3 million in cash on hand.Harris reported raising about $172,100 during the latest period, and he has lent his campaign $20,000. He has about $944,200 on hand.

A Weaker Hurricane Earl Moves Up East Coast. Hurricane Earl’s center has passed east of Cape Hatteras on North Carolina’s coast as the storm’s powerful gusts and driving rains churned over the Outer Banks and is being felt in southeastern Virginia.The hurricane’s maximum sustained winds were at 105 mph early Friday, and Earl is expected to remain a large hurricane as it approaches southern New England.A tropical storm warning is in effect along the Maryland, Delaware and Virginia beaches.

Employees Return To Discovery Channel After Hostage Incident. Employees returned Thursday to Discovery Channel’s headquarters, a day after a gunman carrying explosive devices entered the building and took hostages.Meanwhile, Montgomery County Fire Chief Richard Bowers said authorities have detonated an additional four devices linked to the gunman.Bowers said officials obtained the extra devices from a residence and successfully detonated them. They were in addition to four devices that James J. Lee had brought with him during the hostage ordeal on Wednesday.
