The Capital is reporting that John Singleton, the attorney who has filed suit against County Executive John R. Leopold, has filed an expanded lawsuit upping the damages to $8 million and adding Laurie Garvey as a plaintiff.
Garvey, in the suit claims that Leopold suppressed her right to free speech and claims she was fired for not attending a fundraiser for the County Executive’ campaign. Garvey worked for Leopold during 2007 and 2008–not an election year.
While Singleton appears to be taking on the cause of these women, he is not without issues of his own. He is currently being sued by a former client for improper sexual advances . In the suit against Singleton, the plaintiff alleges she hired him to defend her against a similar situation at her employer. According to the suit, Singleton (among other allegations) repeatedly hugged and kissed the client and invited her on overnight trips despite the fact that she was married and vulnerable due to the issue surrounding her former employer.
Singleton initially released a copy of his complaint against Leopold to the media and included several names to back up Hamner’s allegations. All of the named individuals have denied the allegations Singleton made in the initial claim and none of those names appear in the revised complaint.
