WJLA Releases Officer’s Name In Shooting

WJA, ABC7 News out of Washington, DC has named Keith Shephard as the officer who shot Bear-Bear on Monday night. Bear-Bear was a Siberian Husky who was playing in a community dog park when Shephard, allegedly fearing for his life, shot the husky in defense.

Shephard, his wife, and his leashed family pet had entered the fenced in area around 6:30pm on Monday night. The two dogs began to play roughly when Shephard shot the dog.

Shephard claims that his dog and his family were in imminent danger and that Bear-Bear had bitten his dog and was attacking him. Bear-Bear’s handler says the dogs were playing and the officer told him to pull the husky away and before he had a chance, shot the husky who died a few hours later.  According to the police report, no injuries to Shephard’s dog or to Shephard were noted.
