Back To School Outreach

From the Anne Arundel County Public Schools:

The Anne Arundel County Public Schools Office of School & Family Partnerships is teaming up with Target, Annapolis Town Centre, Office Depot, and Johns Hopkins Healthcare, LLC to provide parents and students with important information as they prepare to return to school later this month.

From 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 14, AACPS employees will be distributing information and answering questions in front of the Target store in Annapolis Town Centre. Information about school, instructional programs, and other areas of interest, including parent workshops, will be provided. There will be bilingual interpreters available for Spanish speaking families.

“We have been thrilled with the response from parents at our kiosks in each of the last two years and we’re looking to help even more families get ready for school this year,” said Teresa Tudor, administrator of the Office of School & Family Partnerships. “We want to do everything we can to help parents be in a better position to assist their children and take advantage of the many opportunities within our school system to do so, and our corporate partners have been extremely generous in helping us make that happen again this year.”

Free gifts will be given to the first 500 visitors, and free backpacks willbe given to the first 200 students. There also will be hourly drawings for backpacks filled with school supplies. Local merchants and banks will be on hand giving out gift cards and holding raffles for savings bonds.

A second informational kiosk will be set up on Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Marley Station mall. All schools from the Glen Burnie feeder system will have tables set up, and personnel from the
Office of School & Family Partnerships will be on hand to answer questions as well.
