Annapolis Distributes Porn Link In Press Release

UPDATE: 11:19am September 1, 2010. The City of Annapolis has issued a correction to the web address previously provided. See full revised release below.

As we were going over recent media releases, one stood out as strange. “ANNAPOLIS RECREATION & PARKS TO HOST CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT.”

Having teens in my house, I am aware of a common definition of “cornhole,” I was sure that there had to be a different definition. But I was hard pressed to find it.  According to Dictionary.com:

corn·hole
[kawrn-hohl]
–verb (used with object), -holed, -hol·ing. Slang: Vulgar .
to have anal intercourse with.

Certainly the City could not be sponsoring this type of tournament! The only other reference I could immediately find was in Wikipedia; which defines it as a bean bag tossing game, but is very clear about the more popular “other meaning.”

At this point, I assume that someone was just not aware of the double entendre of the word and this was an unfortunate mistake. Or maybe not?  Here is the full release from Annapolis Recreation & Parks (sender name redacted by Eye On Annapolis):

But here is where it gets a little dicey. If you are interested in finding out about this cornhole tournament, the city has provided a link for all the information you could want.  Here is a screen shot of the website.

Is this a joke? Is this the work of some disgruntled employee in Recreation & Parks?  This release was presumably sent out to many different media sources. Most media sources would take the City of Annapolis at their word for a release such as this–link and all.

Quite honestly, this is inexcusable and hopefully the City recommended porn site has not been distributed to children “14 and up.”

The email headers confirmed that this was indeed a legitimate email originating from the City’s servers and not something spoofed. Nor was there a recall of the message. From a reader, the correct URL should be cornhole.com, not org.

UPDATE:

Below is a revised release from the City of Annapolis:

**Please note the correct Web site address for American Cornhole Organization is www.americancornhole.org.**
