Attempted Child Abduction In Severna Park
On the first full day of school for the new year, one of our readers has contacted us with disturbing news of an attempted abduction in the Shipley’s Choice neighborhood of Severna Park/Millersville.
From neighbors, earlier today, a little girl was approached by a man in a car. He tried to talk her into the car but she was smart and ran off screaming. She ran home where her mother called the police. The family has two daughters, one in middle school and the other in elementary school. It is unknown at this time which daughter was approached.
With children walking to school and to bus stops across the County, it is a good time for parents to have a safety discussion with their children. Unfortunately, we live in a strange world and none of us can afford to let down our guard. Here is a good reference from the national Center For Missing and Exploited Children.
We have requests in to both the Anne Arundel County Public Schools and the Anne Arundel County Police Department. Please check back for more details as they become available.

What a smart girl. Unfortunately – how scary this is knowing some kids just don’t realize the dangers. For example; a familiar face could be taunting next time and they go anyways. Police need to be posted within neighborhoods and common school areas during school hours.
I don’t have any children but paying extra taxess to ensure they are safely getting to school is a sacrafice (if you can even call it that) – I’m willing to make.
Sick people out there…
Elementary school kids should be walked to the bus stop by an adult or older sibling.
I don’ let my 12 & 8 years olds alone in my front yard, much less walk to school alone.
We do not know (at this point) if this was indeed on the way to or from school or a bus stop. IT very well could have been in the child’s front yard. We are waiting on a response form the police and schools.
Before you go crucifying the Shipley’s parents on this one, there are no bus stops for elementary school kids on this side of Shipley’s Choice because there is no bus service here. The attempted abduction happened within 200 yards of the school grounds. Some parents allow their children to walk to and from school provided the child is with a group, and Locust Thorn Court is the path most students take to walk to and from the school (also happens to be where the car was waiting, so this could have been a well-intentioned parent trying to help or it could’ve been a malicious attempt at kidnapping, who knows?)
