Spa Creek Sewage Spill

The City of Annapolis has issued a warning for people to avoid contact with the water in Spa Creek due to a sewage spill. A private contractor broke a sewer line in the area of Creek Drive and Lockwood Court.  The Department of Public Works is overseeing the repair of the pipe. The extent of the damage is currently unknown and the earliest a repair will be made is tomorrow.

The effected area is from the headwaters of the creek all the way to Compromise Street (The Eastport Bridge).  People who come in contact with the affected water should wash well with soap and warm clean water immediately. Clothing should also be washed. There is no restriction on catching fish or crabs. Cooking can kill bacteria and viruses, and it is generally acceptable to eat crabs and fish taken from areas closed to swimming as long as they are handled properly. For more information about possible health issues related to this spill, call the Department of Health’s Water Quality Line at 410-222-7999 or visit the department’s website, www.aahealth.org.
