Iraq War Vet Killed In Fistfight In Glen Burnie. Anne Arundel County police said an Iraq war veteran was killed during a dispute at a party this weekend.Robert Raeke, 23, who friends called Jay, died early Saturday after a fight near his Glen Burnie home.Police said they believe Raeke was killed during a fist fight shortly after 3 a.m. Saturday in the 900 block of Princeton Terrace.Raeke’s neighbors and family told 11 News that he was a friendly and fun-loving man. They said he served a 15-month tour in Iraq, received an honorable discharge from the Army and came home in December.
Poll: Ehrlich Leads O’Malley In Rematch. A new poll found that former Gov. Bob Ehrlich leads the way in a rematch for the gubernatorial contest against current Gov. Martin O’Malley. The Washington Times reported that the new poll from Magellan Strategies found that Ehrlich has a 3 percent lead over O’Malley.The poll showed that 11 percent of the 750 likely voters polled were either undecided or preferred another candidate.The poll has a margin of error of 3.5 points.O’Malley ousted Ehrlich in 2006 by a 6 percent margin.

Dozens Become Citizens In Naturalization Ceremony. To celebrate Independence Day, more than 3,800 people from around the world became U.S. citizens, including dozens in Maryland.Special ceremonies were held across the country on Sunday, including in Annapolis, where 40 citizenship candidates from 40 countries attended the naturalization ceremony at the William Paca House and Garden.The oath of allegiance was read to the new citizens, who said they were grateful for the opportunity.”It’s like a dream come true. It’s good to finally be a citizen after so long,” said new resident Omolola Johnson. “Windows of opportunity have been opened up to me.”
