Minor Earthquake Shakes MarylandA minor earthquake shook residents awake early Friday throughout Maryland. There were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, authorities said.The epicenter of the earthquake was centered in Germantown, stretching through Montgomery County, the Washington, D.C., area, central Maryland, and even into West Virginia and Pennsylvania. According to the U.S. Geological Survey’s National Earthquake Information Center, the 3.6 magnitude earthquake hit at 5:04 a.m.

City Code Red Heat Alert Today.  Friday has been declared a Code Red heat alert day in Baltimore due to the extremely high temperatures that are expected.The city will open its cooling centers for those residents who need it. Click here to get a list of those cooling centers. You can also check your area for a list of cooling centers if you live outside the city. Health officials said 13 people have died from heat-related issues in the state so far this year, and they’re hoping not to add to that number. Protesters Picket Ehrlich; Former Gov. Touts Bridge Rebuild.  The campaign trail turned scrappy on Thursday in the Maryland governor’s race.Dozens of protestors marched at former Gov. Bob Ehrlich’s Annapolis campaign headquarters demanding he “come clean” on whether he is an unregistered lobbyist, while Ehrlich rallied in Easton, blasting Gov. Martin O’Malley for cutting funds to repair the Dover Bridge.

Brit Accused Of Stealing Dead American’s ID.  A British man accused of stealing the identity of a dead American is in federal custody. Authorities arrested John Skelton on Monday night at Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport. U.S. Customs and Border Protection said in a news release that Skelton stole the identity of U.S. citizen Kurt Branham, who died in 1994. Skelton, 41, had been living in Baltimore, and CPB said he was apprehended after using a fraudulent U.S. passport to re-enter the country after a trip to the United Kingdom.
