Man Robbed While Giving Directions In Annapolis

Annapolis has been known to be a tourist area for years. Yes, the area has its share of problems as any other area tends to have; but for the most part, this is a beautiful and safe area to live, work and play!

Recently, our local conference and visitor’s bureau has received some accolades in the local press for their efforts–which they do very well.  It is situations like the one reported below that make their job all the more difficult.

Granted, it was 1:40am and very few businesses would be open at that time, but have we come to the point where we can’t even offer someone who may be lost directions to their destination? This happened on the road that leads into the Festival at Riva from Riva Road–a well lit and well trafficked area.

From the Anne Arundel County Police:

On July 30, 2010, at approximately 1:40 a.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the 100 block of Hearne Court in Annapolis for a report of a citizen robbery.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 23-year-old male victim, who stated that he was walking on Hearne Court near Hearne Drive when a silver, four door Dodge Truck approached him. The occupants in the vehicle advised that they were looking for the location of a business in the area. While the victim was speaking with one of the occupants, a suspect armed with a handgun accosted him from behind and two other suspects began rummaging through his pockets. The suspects removed the victim’s cell phone, blue tooth, and a gold necklace before they left the area traveling south on Riva Road. The victim returned home before calling the police. Several officers canvassed the area, but were unable to locate the suspects.

Suspect #1: Black male in his mid 20’s, with a light complexion and dreadlocks and last seen wearing a gray shirt (armed with a handgun)
Suspects #2-4: Three black males in their early 20’s with light complexions
