Council Candidate’s Son Arrested On Drug Charges

County Council hopeful Phil Bissett’s teenage son was arrested by Anne Arundel County Police early this morning. According to the police report, Corey Phillip Bissett and Taylor Richard Madden were initially questioned by police for trespassing at Beverly Beach Park near Edgewater.

When police questioned the teens and subsequently searched the area they discovered suspected marijuana. A search of Bissett’s backpack revealed 82.2 grams of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,644.00 and several items of drug paraphernalia. Over $1000 in cash was also seized.

  • Suspect #1: Taylor Richard Madden, 19, of 1106 Murray Drive, Edgewater, MD. The suspect was charged with Possession of CDS and Trespassing
  • Suspect #2: Corey Phillip Bissett, 19, of 3535 Oak Drive, Edgewater, MD. The suspect was charged with CDS Possession with the Intent to Distribute, CDS Paraphernalia, Possession of CDS and Trespassing.

Bissett was charged with possession of marijuana on May 9, 2010 and is currently awaiting trial on those charges. According to electronic court records, a trial date of August 3, 2010 has been set.  It appears that both Bissett and Madden were charged and released pending trial

Corey Bissett is the son Phil and Robin Bissett. Phil is a former State Delegate and is currently running for a spot on Anne Arundel County Council representing Council District 7.  Robin currently serves on the District 30 representative on the Anne Arundel County Republican Central Committee and is running for re-election.

CDS ARRESTS EDGEWATER
On July 22, 2010, at approximately 2:01 a.m., an officer from Southern District was patrolling Beverly Beach Park as part of “Operation Waterfront Educational Enforcement Program” when he observed two adult males sitting at a picnic table in the park. While the officer
was speaking to the subjects, another officer searched the area where they were sitting in the park and discovered suspected marijuana. A further search of the backpack of one of the subjects yielded two large Ziploc bags containing approximately 82.2 grams of suspected marijuana with an estimated street value of $1,644.00 and several items of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, $1,001 of U.S. currency was seized. The suspects were arrested and charged accordingly.
