Serious Accident In Annapolis–Pedestrian In Wheelchair Dies

Update: 3:14pm The Annapolis Police Department has confirmed the death of Marla Marie McFarland, 57 of Glenwood Street in Annapolis.

Officers from the Annapolis Police Department remain on the scene of a fatal traffic accident in the 900 block of West Street. Officers arrived on the scene at 12:50 PM on Thursday, June 10, 2010 where they found a pedestrian in a wheelchair had been struck and killed. The pedestrian, Marla Marie McFarland, DOB 10/27/53 of the 700 block of Glenwood Street was transported to AAMC where she was pronounced dead. The investigation is continuing. Charges are pending against the driver.

Update: 2:50pm The Capital is also reporting that the woman was killed.  According to the article, she was traveling on the sidewalk in her motorized wheelchair when she was struck by a car exiting the BP gas station throwing her out of her chair.

Update: 2:26pm What’s Up Editor, Nadja Maril has shared her observations from her window overlooking the scene.  From this account it appears a Fawcett’s Marine Boat Supplies van struck a woman in a motorized wheelchair.

Update: 2:06pm According to Annapolis Fire Department Twitter Feed, the patient was transported to Anne Arundel Medical Center (AAMC) as a Priority 1.

Update: 1:48pm It appears that a pedestrian in a wheelchair was struck in the area of 932 West Street.

Annapolis Police, Fire, and EMS are currently on the scene of a serious accident at West Street and Westgate Circle.  Details are currently unavailable but will be published as soon as possible.
