Annapolis Mayor: $153K Stolen From City Vault.  The mayor of Annapolis and the city’s police chief are trying to figure out who took more than $153,000 from a vault in City Hall and how it could have happened.Mayor Joshua Cohen told City Council members on Tuesday that the theft occurred between the afternoon of June 7 and the morning of June 8, but that he wasn’t told about it until Monday — nearly a week later — when the police chief called to ask him about it.

$2 Million Powerball Ticket Sold In Glen Burnie. The Maryland Lottery has its biggest Powerball winner since the game launched in the state earlier this year.A $2 million “second-tier” winning ticket was sold for Saturday night’s drawing. The ticket was purchased at Pop Grocery and Deli on Furnace Brand Road in Glen Burnie. The lucky winner, who hasn’t come forward, chose the Power Play option. That turned a $200,000 prize into $2 million.Saturday’s winning numbers were 09, 12, 13, 35, 38, and the Powerball was 30.

Anne Arundel Sex Offender Caught At Market In BaltimoreAnne Arundel County police said Tuesday that a man sought for two years for failing to register as a sex offender has been caught.Willie Floyd Brown, 50, was taken into custody Monday night at the Cross Street Market in Baltimore. Investigators said a citizen tip to Baltimore city police alerted them that Brown was often seen at the Cross Street Market. Baltimore police notified Anne Arundel officers.A warrant had been issued for Brown, whose last known address was Greenbriar Lane in Annapolis, in 2008.

MD Schools Make Newsweek’s List.  Newsweek magazine is again giving several Maryland schools high marks in its yearly list of top public high schools.The ranking is really a reflection of which states are offering tough courses, 11 News education reporter Tim Tooten said. In Maryland’s case, 98 schools made the cut, putting the state in the top 6 percent in the nation.A dozen Baltimore County high schools made the list, two of which were new to it: Western School of Technology and Environmental Science and Perry Hall High School.
