Wade Korvin, a star lacrosse player for Archbishop Spalding has been charged by Anne Arundel County Police with 5 counts of first degree assault.  Korvin has been featured for his athletic prowess on the football and lacrosse fields and is a rising senior at Archbishop Spalding High School in Severn.

Korvin, along with Wesley Stryker are accused of throwing rocks at pedestrians from the car which they were driving.

According to police:

Wade Korvin

On June 16, 2010, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers from the Western District responded to the area of Grover Road and Daniel’s Purchase Way in Millersville for a report of an injured subject lying on the side of the road.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with the 35-year-old male victim, who reported that he was jogging on the shoulder of Grover Road when a Toyota Camry passed him. The vehicle then returned travelling the other direction and nearly struck the victim. At one point, a passenger leaned outside of his window, threw a rock at the victim and struck him, which caused him to fall to the ground. The victim was able to retrieve a tag number from the suspect vehicle prior to its departure. The victim transported himself to Baltimore Washington Medical Center to seek treatment for his injuries.

Western District officers immediately began investigating and identified the owner of the vehicle, which ultimately led officers to two possible suspects. Through further investigation, both suspects were determined to be involved in the aforementioned rock throwing incident and they were subsequently arrested. Additionally, it was determined that officers from the Eastern District were handling two similar incidents from around the same time that evening believed to involve the same suspects.

Wesley Stryker

In one of those incidents, an 84-year-old female and an 86-year-old male were walking near Ben Oaks Drive and Ben Oaks Drive West in Severna Park when a vehicle approached, swerved toward them and the driver threw a rock that struck the female victim. The second incident in Eastern District took place on Sheffield Road at Lission Court in Severna Park when an adult male subject and his adult daughter were both struck by a rock thrown from a passing vehicle. The investigation into these incidents is ongoing.Suspect #1: Wade Korvin, 17, 2281 Snowfall Court, Odenton, Maryland. Charged as an adult with First Degree Assault (five counts), Second Degree Assault (five counts) and Reckless Endangerment (five counts)

Suspect #2: Wesley Stryker, 17, of 112 Melchior Road, Millersville, Maryland. Charged as an adult with First Degree Assault, Second Degree Assault and Reckless Endangerment

Everybody who is saying these were “nice kids” is completly wrong. Wade is disrespectful to adults, and uses girls like blowup dolls. He once sent a kid to the hosptial by kicking him in the testicles. Spalding will be a better place without him.

  • david

Violent kid, will become a violent man. I assume John is a Spalding student. He probably has a very good insight to this person but of course as usual no one else will listen to the ground roots reality of what decent people have seen over the years about this child.

    wait i thought

theyre not supposed to release their names becuase theyre under 18..what about those 3 arundel boys with the whole graffiti thing?

    • http://www.eyeonannapolis.net John Frenaye

These two are charged as adults, hence the releasing of their names. I am not sure what the criteria is, but I suspect that a felony (as opposed to a misdemeanor) weighs in the decision to charge them as adults or juveniles. There is a vast difference between graffiti and throwing rocks at people from moving cars.

The 84 year old woman that was struck was my Grandmother…I wonder how he would have felt if i had thrown a rock at his grandmother! I hope they give him the maximum sentence and i feel sorry for his parents cause he just wasted their money on 4 years of school for him to rot in jail. I hope he thinks about it everyday for the rest of his life.

  • sam

i understand you are upset about your grandmother but the max sentence is 135 years i believe. do you really think someone should spend the rest of there lives in jail because of a mistake they made when they were only 17 years old

135 years/life in jail is indeed unlikely and a bit extreme–given Anne Arundel’s penchant for lax justice. But, personally, I take issue with calling this a “mistake”. It has not hit court yet, so most of what we know is conjecture, but it does seem pre-meditated to me. And Sam, what crimes would you consider “mistakes” and at what age?

Let’s take some of the local events. Was the beating death of Christopher Jones a “mistake” made by a few minors? Raszewski when he raped the 7 year old girl?

Certainly 18 does not change much from 17, but by that time there likely is a sense of right and wrong instilled.

If a 7, 8, maybe even 12 year old picked up a rock at the local McDonalds and decided to toss it at a passing pedestrian, I might be inclined to think it was a mistake. But when they are 17, operating their own vehicles, and apparently targeting people, it moves well beyond that realm.

when you are 17 your brain is still not fully developed. when you have athletes, who are usually bigger risk takers as kids, they try things just for the thrill without thinking of the consequences or how it might effect others.even i can say when i was 17 i did some things that i look back on and have no idea why i thought that would be a good idea. i can remember my friend letting me drive his bmw and racing another car down the highway going 150 mph. i look back on that now and say what was i thinking. i could have kill both of us with one wrong move. also you cannot comapare the murder of someone with this case where the worst injury was 3 stiches on someones shin.

Wade is a good kid, i dont know why you think one mistake should take him down, he is one of the premier lacrosse players in America. he was also going to play at west point and serve in our army. maybe he could use his skills to hit terriosts. God made everyone for a reason. just think…..

Service Academies don;t offer admission to HS Juniors. In fact, many times they require a PG year. And although this is now a juvenile matter, I suspect that if he had any intent to apply for an appointment to West Point, it is a moot point now.

  • Sarah

this was clearly not a mistake. as a 17 year old myself lets face it, they knew what they were doing is wrong. Even most 9 year old know its wrong to throw rocks at people. The boys are lucky that more people were not seriously hurt. They both deserve more than whats coming to them, especially since

  • Sarah

they are both high school seniors. they both clearly know what they were doing. end of story.

  • brooke

Sam…do i believe he should spend the rest of his life in prison no. I do believe he made a conscious decision to throw rocks at people and think he could get away with it. That is not a mistake that is just plain stupidity. Now lets take a minute and think about this…say he would have killed my grandmother would you still be calling it a mistake? 84 years of life taking away because he was too stupid to think before he acted. That would not have been a mistake that would have been a tragedy. As for you jackson all i have heard about this kid is that he is arrogant jock that has no respect for adults (obviously), women or anyone he thinks he is better then. No one can justify what he did with their opinions of him so stop saying he was a good kid it is obviously not true.
