Plans For Arundel Mills Slots Stopped Indefinitely. Anne Arundel County executive John Leopold has ordered a halt to all county planning related to the proposed Arundel Mills Mall casino.That came after the county Board of Elections has certified the petitions turned over by opponents of the project.The Board certified nearly 23,000 of the over 40,000 signatures submitted. Opponents only needed to submit nearly 19,000 to get the issue on the ballot.In December, developer David Cordish had received county council approval to build the parlor with 4,750 slots terminals.
Soldier Pleads Guilty To Operating Brothel In Millersville. A soldier who was stationed at Fort Meade has pleaded guilty to operating a brothel out of his Millersville apartment.Craig Allen Corey II, 23, pleaded guilty Thursday to sex trafficking, conspiracy to distribute drugs and other charges.Corey was arrested in September. Prosecutors said he and three men from his hometown of Chillicothe, Ohio, brought women from Ohio, New York and other states to Maryland to engage in prostitution. They said he also recruited a 16-year-old girl.Authorities said Corey posted ads on the Internet advertising the prostitutes and took a portion of their earnings.They said he also bought ecstasy and other drugs and gave them to the women and to customers.
Howard Co. Executive Rushed To Hospital. Howard County Executive Ken Ulman was rushed to the hospital Thursday afternoon, county officials said.Officials in Ulman’s office said the executive suffered a severe posterior nasal hemorrhage that caused a significant drop in his blood pressure. Ulman was taken to Howard County General Hospital where the bleeding was placed under control, officials said.
Official Touts Federal Financial Aid Changed In MD. The Obama administration hopes to open the flood gates for student needing financial aid, and several Maryland students are hoping to get some of that money.The president said he wants to eliminate the “middle man” when it comes to granting student loans.Dr. John Wilson heads the White House program to strengthen the nation’s historically black colleges and universities. He told students at Morgan State University on Thursday that the program is going to take a big commitment and big dollars to make a difference.
