Former Southern High Athletic Director Headed To Hall Of Fame

Tom Albright To Be Inducted Saturday Night

AACPS’ Skip Lee earns Distinguished Service Award

More good news from the Anne Arundel County Schools.

Legendary Southern High School Athletic Director Tom Albright will receive the highest honor the Maryland State Athletic Directors Association can bestow when he is inducted into the Hall of Fame on Saturday night.

Anne Arundel County Public Schools Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, Dance Skip Lee will receive the group’s Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding contributions to interscholastic athletics on the same night.

Albright served as Southern’s athletic director for 43 years and became an icon at the Harwood school. In 42 of those years he coached the school’s boys basketball team, winning 13 county, 11 regional, and four state championships.  Albright also coached the school’s soccer and baseball teams for several years. He was inducted into the Anne Arundel County Sports Hall of Fame in 2001.

When he wasn’t on the court or field, Albright was busy overseeing Southern’s interscholastic athletic programs. He served as a Department of Recreation and Parks basketball league supervisor for 36 years, and as an Anne Arundel County scheduler for 25 years.

Albright was named Teacher of the Year by The Washington Post in 1993, and by Reader’s Digest in 1994.

Lee is currently the Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Dance for Anne Arundel County Public Schools. An avid fitness proponent, he co-chairs the school system’s Wellness Committee and supports state initiatives advocating for stronger health, physical education, and dance programs.

A former track coach at Chesapeake High School, Lee still oversees the county’s indoor track program. In his current position as Coordinator, he is working to expand physical activity opportunities for all students while keeping the focus on student achievement. Most recently, he worked with high school teachers to develop the Walking for Wellness curriculum that meets a significant need of our student population.
