Drowning Death Details

15-Year Old Dies In Patuxent River

From the Anne Arundel County Police Department,

On April 20, 2010, at approximately 3:50 p.m., officers from the Southern District responded to the Wayson’s Mobile Trailer Park in Lothian for a report of a drowning in the Patuxent River.

Upon arrival, officers spoke with witnesses, who advised that the 15-year-old male victim, Edward Daniel Knudsen, Jr., jumped in the river and attempted to swim across. The victim swam approximately halfway when he experienced difficulty in the current. Two male acquaintances jumped into the river, but were unsuccessful in their attempt to rescue the victim, who eventually went under the water and did not resurface. A third witness then called 911.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department’s Marine Unit, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Dive Team, officers from the Prince George’s County Police Department, two Maryland State Police Aviation Units, a Howard County Police Aviation Unit and Department of Natural Resources Police all responded to assist with the rescue operation. At approximately, 5:34 p.m., the deceased victim was recovered from the river by members of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Dive Team. Through investigation, there were no signs of foul play and no evidence of any trauma to the victim.
