Comcast Worker Shot, Killed In City. Baltimore city police said a Comcast worker was fatally shot in east Baltimore Sunday morning.Police have identified the victim as 50-year-old Carlos Williams. Police said Williams was sitting in his van, in the 1900 block of Boone Street when several suspects approached the van.Before Williams could close the door, at least one of the suspects opened fire. Williams was struck multiple times.

Bitter Ending Pops Maryland’s Dream For Sweet 16. Korie Lucious hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to cap a frenetic finish and give injury-depleted Michigan State an 85-83 victory over Maryland on Sunday in the second round of the NCAA tournament.After star guard Kalin Lucas went down with a leg injury, the Spartans blew a 16-point lead in the second half. Greivis Vasquez’s basket put Maryland ahead 83-82 with 6 seconds left, but Michigan State inbounded immediately and pushed up the floor.

Senate Defers Cost Of Teacher Pensions, Cuts Jobs. A Senate committee on Friday adopted a plan to make local jurisdictions help pick up the costs of teacher pensions in the next fiscal year.The panel also approved a proposal to cut 500 jobs from the executive branch of government.The teacher pension plan was adopted by the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee and will include splitting Social Security obligations.

House Passes Obama’s Health Care Overhaul. A transformative health care bill is headed to President Barack Obama for his signature as Congress takes the final steps in Democrats’ improbable and history-making push for near-universal medical coverage.On the cusp of succeeding where numerous past congresses and administrations have failed, jubilant House Democrats voted 219-212 late Sunday to send legislation to Obama that would extend coverage to 32 million uninsured Americans, reduce deficits and ban insurance company practices such as denying coverage to people with pre-existing medical conditions.
